Race Reports

The fields were small at BB#2 this year. But still  some Capitol Velo racers braved the stormy weekend weather. Antonio Castaneda continues to finish strong in the Men’s CAT 4.  John Divelbiss was remarkable in the Mens Master 40+ Cat 4/5.  Craig Beavers dominated taking 2nd in the Mens Master 40+ Cat 4/5!

Other notable Salem racers, Jen Akeroyd (Sorella Forte) wins the Womens CAT 1/2, Zach Winter (Guinness Cycling Team) is back living in Salem finishing 6th in the Men CAT 1/2.

Banana Belt #3, The Final Banana

Next weekend is the last bb. The course will be counter clockwise w/ uphill finish, just like BB#1.

Shout out to Beavers for dominating and a picture that makes him look like Tom Boonen. Big shout to Cap Velo friend Pat Jackson, who had a minute up on the 4s on the last lap, crashed on one of the last turns before the finishing hills, fixed a jammed chain and other crash-related difficulties, rejoined the attacking group, and still finished top ten. With the torn kit and blood to make it look righteous. And, being Pat, he was laughing about it and ready to race another one right there. And, don’t forget Big Tony. He was out there too! I don’t know how he finished, but when his race started, it was raining cats, dogs, and hamsters. -John D

Thanks John and all the Capitol Velo teammates and officers for their support! We have a great club/team here! Really like how the club has grown. Sage, thanks can’t speak how much you’ve brought to the club. Your professionalism and outstanding character has hurdled this club to new heights. The cool website for all of us to use and communicate.Your voice on the board for the members that actually race is appreciated! Thank you!!

Jesse we miss you! Comforted to know you,Kurstin and Murray are happy and doing well.

It seems that some good solid base riding through the winter. Strenght training at the gym, some added spinervals and indoor inline speedskating is paying off. Let the race results speak for themselves.

BB#2 Somehow after hitting two pot holes and cracking my carbon wheel not flatting. Running over a guys crank arm that fell off on the last lap. Chasing down multiple attempts to break away. Was able to move to the front and sprint for the finish line for second place. The guy who won jumped from behind and was able to hold us off at the finish.Good close race!

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. :) Craig B.
